Andy Engel is known as one of the world’s best photorealism tattoo artists and places particular emphasis on precision, passion and attention to detail. The Bavarian native was born in 1972 in the 180-seat village of Tiefenstockheim in Bavaria, Germany. Through the art and craft of his father, who worked as a master blacksmith and locksmith, he learned from an early age what craftsmanship means and how important reliability, responsibility, trust and quality are towards the customer, himself and for his own company. These values still shape his work as a tattoo artist today. “My parents taught me what values are important in life and that you should always stay true to yourself, and I am very grateful for that.”
In 2008, a regular customer came to Andy after being diagnosed with breast cancer and the resulting unilateral mastectomy and persuaded him to tattoo her with a photorealistic nipple. The result made the customer so happy that she sent Bavarian Radio to Andy’s studio to make the topic better known so that other women could also benefit from it.
Right from the start with the support of the Missionary Medical Clinic Breast Center Würzburg, especially from Dr. med. Andreas Cramer as a cooperation partner with whose help Andy Engel under MEDTATTOO not only brings the topic closer to those affected by breast cancer, but also educates clinics on the topic of nipple tattoos in seminars. He also does a lot of clarification with health insurance companies in order to get those affected to cover the costs.
